Ms. Osaka’s disagreement with tournament organizers began when she claimed she would not take part in French Open post-match news conferences because she found the constant criticism detrimental to her mental health. Sunday, following her first-round victory, was the breaking point, and she kept her word and didn’t show up to the post-match press conference.

The shockwaves reached Osaka. She gave off a sad expression and started crying. Former coach Sascha Bajin pleaded with the spectator to desist. In order to help Osaka relax, Bajin took advantage of the fact that coaching is allowed during matches at WTA events other than the majors. Her chances of winning the contest were high. That, and the competition. After struggling for the first half of the year, she finally broke through at the U.S. Open.

After winning the first round at Roland Garros in May, the four-time major winner shockingly withdrew, citing mental health issues. Because she stuck to her choice and did not attend the customary post-match news conference, the four Grand Slams threatened to ban her from the event and any future majors she might participate in.

Osaka, 23, confessed that speaking to the media often makes her uneasy and that she has faced melancholy and anxiety since winning her maiden major at the 2018 US Open. She expressed regret to any journalists who had to deal with the consequences of her decision.

In the global rankings, she is currently number one. She is expected to earn over $100 million through endorsements and will be the Olympic torchbearer at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Conflict, antagonism, and partisan supporters continue to disturb her. Osaka withdrew from tennis in 2021 to focus on her mental health after revealing that she has battled depression ever since her 2018 US Open victory over Serena Williams. Her ranking has dropped from No. 76 to No. 78 since then, and it’s been almost a year since she last won a tournament. On Saturday, she faced Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in her second Indian Wells encounter. A spectator exclaimed, “You suck,” early in the game.

Naomi Osaka Has Decided to Pull out Of the French Open

Osaka has withdrawn from the French Open and “take some time away” from tennis in the wake of a dispute regarding her handling of media obligations.

A day after being penalized and faced with severe sanctions for violating her statutory media commitments, Naomi Osaka announced on social media that she will “take some time away from the court” and withdraw from the French Open.

Osaka issued a lengthy statement explaining why she was withdrawing from the competition, saying that she “never meant to be a distraction” and that it was “the best thing for the tournament, the other players, and my well-being.”

Withdrawing from the competition “is the best thing for the tournament, the other players, and my well-being at this time,” Osaka stated. I apologize if I was a distraction; I know my timing wasn’t great and my message should have been crystal clear.

On Monday, following Osaka’s withdrawal, Gilles Moreton, head of the French Tennis Federation, issued a brief statement to the media but did not accept any questions.
